You Loved Me Like a Distant Star, 2012, (c) Tracey Emin

While there are many aspects of Tracey Emin’s work I could discuss in relation to my own, referenced here is her use of light and language. Her merging of an industrial medium with confessional writings to create effective autobiographical sculptures are invigorating. The use of neon for its feel-good factors and associations are referenced in my use of neon wire and light. However, unlike Emin’s work, my sculpture and writings are more metaphorical and abstract. The merging of word art and neon is an ongoing aspiration I have been working towards that will continue to develop works such as ‘Shard’ and ‘Spine’.
